Ukrainian Catholic Metropolitan Requests Retirement

The primate of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, Major Archbishop Lubomyr Cardinal Husar of Kiev, has requested the Vatican to grant him retirement due to his age and declining health. Under Archbishop Lubomyr the Ukrainian Catholic Church has transferred its headquarters from its traditional home in Lvov to Kiev and also claimed the rank of patriarchate for the church, although this status has not been recognized or granted by the Vatican.
