Russian Orthodox Church to Add Belgian Saints to Calendar

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has requested a Western Orthodox layperson of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad to compile a list of pre-1054 Saints from what today is Belgium for inclusion in the festal calendar of the Church of Rus' worldwide. Their inclusion will be considered at the June session of the Holy Synod this year.

This request comes three years after the insertion of the names of the Saints of the British Isles into the Russian Orthodox calendar in 2007. In the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad there has long been a push to venerate the Saints of the West, in whose lands many Russian emigres found themselves following the Bolshevik Revolution. More here.
