Russian Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism Allies?

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has claimed once again that the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches are natural allies in the ongoing 'culture wars' in the West, glossing over concerning liturgical, disciplinary, and ascetical (or lack thereof) trends that have grown in the Church of Rome since the Second Vatican Council.
