Copt Killed in Cairo Protests
A Copt has been killed in recent clashes between the Egyptian police and Orthodox Christians following the government's decision to stop the construction of a new church in Giza, a part of greater Cairo. Two more Copts were seriously injured and between twenty and a hundred people were detained by the police. The clash comes as tensions between Muslims and Orthodox rise in Egypt, which still maintains medieval Ottoman laws requiring the permission of the national government for the construction or repair (however major or minor) of churches.
