Malankara Orthodox Metropolitan Visits Crestwood Seminary, Discusses Curriculum Development

Metropolitan Alexios Mar Eusebius of the Southwest American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church has visited Sts. Vladimir's and Nerses' Seminaries in New York to meet with the seminaries' leaderships and with the diocesan seminarians studying at St. Vladimir's. During his time at St. Vladimir's Metropolitan Mar Eusebius discussed the creation of a curriculum more oriented to the needs of the seminary's Malankara Orthodox students with the seminary's dean. Metropolitan Kallistos to Speak at Anglican/Orthodox Conference in New York

The North American Conference of the Fellowship of Sts. Alban and Sergius will feature Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware) of Diocleia this year, who will be delivering the Conference's keynote address. The Conference, which encourages dialogue between Orthodox Christianity and Anglicanism, is being hosted by St. Vladimir's Theological Seminary in Crestwood, New York. Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen) of the American Orthodox Church, who was raised in the Episcopal Church (the US province of the worldwide Anglican Communion), will also be in attendance at the Conference. Seminarians Visit Teaneck Cathedral

Students from St. Vladimir's Seminary in Crestwood, New York, have visited St. Mark's Cathedral in Teaneck, New Jersey, to learn more about the life of the Syriac Orthodox Church and the state of the Christological dialogue between the Orthodox Churches accepting and rejecting Chalcedon. Fr. Gerasim Leads Chicago Lenten Seminar

Archimandrite Gerasim (Eliel), former abbot of St. Herman's Monastery in Platina, California, led a Lenten seminar at the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection in Libertyville, Illinois, earlier this week. Fr. Gerasim, currently a student at St. Vladimir's Seminary in Crestwood, New York, is widely expected to be the next Bishop of Sitka. More here.

Metropolitan Christopher Returns to Czech Republic

After meeting with Archbishop Demetrios of New York of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and visiting St. Vladimir's Seminary in Crestwood, New York, to receive an honorary doctorate from the Seminary and the Order of St. Innocent from Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen) of Washington, Metropolitan Christopher (Pulec) of Prague of the Czechoslovak Orthodox Church left the United States to return to the Czech Republic. Interestingly enough, Metropolitan Christopher's visit to the Greek Orthodox archdiocesan headquarters in New York did not warrant any sort of press release or notice on the website of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, whereas the recent visit of the Greek foreign minister (perhaps the equivalent to the head of a Local Orthodox Church?) did.

Metropolitan Hilarion Begins Visit to the USA

Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk has begun his visit to the United States. After being welcomed to the country by Archbishop Justinian (Ovchinnikov) of Narofominsk, representative of the Moscow Patriarchate to the American Orthodox Church (OCA), Vladyka Hilarion visited Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral) of New York at the headquarters of the Synod Abroad of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia in New York. Following his time at the Synodal headquarters Metropolitan Hilarion continued on to St. Vladimir's Theological Seminary in Crestwood to deliver a lecture in memory of Fr. Alexander Schmemann. He was welcomed to the Seminary by Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen) of Washington and Bishop Melchisedek (Pleska) of Pittsburgh of the OCA. Among other present at the lecture was Bishop Kyrillos of Abydos, a professor at Athens University and auxiliary bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. More on that here.
