Fascist Protesters March in Vilnius

This past weekend fascist protesters in Vilnius called for a "Lithuania for the Lithuanians." Modern Lithuania is a vestige of Lithuania at its height as a grand duchy united with the Kingdom of Poland, but remains as multiethnic as its predecessor with some 20% of its citizens being of non-Lithuanian ethnicity (primarily Poles, Russians, Belorussians, and Ukrainians). Protests Over Viennese Church Transfer Continue

Protests in Vienna continue over a church there that was recently given to the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Sava. Many of the former Roman Catholic parish's 800 members have signed a petition for the church's return. Oddly enough, the parish was apparently one of the better attended in its district, which makes one wonder why the Archdiocese of Vienna chose it for transfer to the Church of Serbia. The ethnic makeup of the former parish (which was/is largely Polish) in a country of a very different ethnicity makes the whole situation doubly interesting. More here.

Lukashenko Denies Existence of Human Rights Issues

In a recent address to the Belorussian National Assembly President Alexander Lukashenko denied the existence of problems for ethnic, sexual, or religious minorities in Belarus. Belarus has been criticized for years for its maintenance of a Soviet-style dictatorship since the 1991 collapse of the USSR and its suppression of the human rights of its ethnic minorities, particularly those of the Polish population in western Belarus. Poles Protest Serbian Orthodox Parish in Vienna

Polish Catholics in Vienna are protesting a recent decision of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna to donate one of the city's parishes, which was in danger of closing and being sold, to the Serbian Orthodox Church. More here.
