Metropolitan Hilarion Begins Visit to the USA

Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk has begun his visit to the United States. After being welcomed to the country by Archbishop Justinian (Ovchinnikov) of Narofominsk, representative of the Moscow Patriarchate to the American Orthodox Church (OCA), Vladyka Hilarion visited Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral) of New York at the headquarters of the Synod Abroad of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia in New York. More on that here and here.

Following his time at the Synodal headquarters Metropolitan Hilarion continued on to St. Vladimir's Theological Seminary in Crestwood to deliver a lecture in memory of Fr. Alexander Schmemann. He was welcomed to the Seminary by Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen) of Washington and Bishop Melchisedek (Pleska) of Pittsburgh of the OCA. Among other present at the lecture was Bishop Kyrillos of Abydos, a professor at Athens University and auxiliary bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. More on that here.

Metropolitan Hilarion's talk at St. Vladimir's, "The Meaning of 'Icon' in the Orthodox Church," can be found here.
