Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan Visits Greece

Metropolitan Mor Gregorios (Yohanna) of Aleppo of the Syriac Orthodox Church has concluded a visit to Greece. During his time in Greece Metropolitan Mor Gregorios met with representatives of the Greek Foreign Ministry to discuss the ongoing unrest in Syria and also with Archbishop Jerome II (Liapis) of Athens to convey to him the greetings of Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatios Zakka I (Iwas) of Antioch and discuss relations between the Syriac and Greek Orthodox Churches. Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan Calls for "Stability and Independence" for Syria

In a talk after Sunday Liturgy this past weekend in the Cathedral of St. Ephraim in Burbank, California, visiting Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan Mor Gregorios (Yohanna) of Aleppo stressed Syria's right to "stability and independence" and the need for peace in the country and freedom from outside ambitions so that the recent reforms enacted by the government of President Bashar al-Assad can have time to be implemented fully. Syriac Orthodox Patriarch to Remain in Damascus

In an interview Metropolitan Mor Gregorios (Yohanna) of Aleppo of the Syriac Orthodox Church has spoken against recent rumors that preparations are being made to transfer the seat of the Patriarchate of Antioch from Damascus to India or Turkey. More here. The rumors have developed as political unrest has spread in Syria, long a haven for the Middle East's Christians under the ruling al-Assad family.

Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Visits Aleppo

Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I (Iwas) of Antioch and All the East of the Syriac Orthodox Church is on a pastoral visit to the Archdiocese of Aleppo in Syria. During the course of his visit he received Metropolitan Mar Gregorios (Yohanna Ibrahim) of Aleppo as well as Metropolitan Paul (Yazigi) of Aleppo of the Antiochian Orthodox Church. More here.
