Turkish Deputy PM Visits the Phanar

A senior member of the Turkish cabinet, Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç, visited the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the Phanar today, raising hopes that the visit (the first such visit since 1952) signals a thaw in Turkey's treatment of its Orthodox Christian minorities. During the visit Arınç stated that the Turkish government was seriously considering the Constantinopolitan Orthodox Church's request that the Halki Seminary be allowed to reopen. More here and here.
